Nalbandian wins Davis Cup opener
MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina (AP) Argentina's David Nalbandian defeated Spain's David Ferrer 6-3, 6-2, 6-3 Friday in the opening singles match of the Davis Cup final.
Argentina is aiming for its first Davis Cup title. Spain is playing without top-ranked Rafael Nadal, who is sidelined with a knee injury.
Boosted by a boisterous crowd of nearly 10,000 fans at the Islas Malvinas Stadium, the 11th-ranked Nalbandian dominated the match. He closed by winning four of the last five games, clinching with an ace.
